Anouncements and Lesson Activities
Beethoven's 250th BirthdayEven though there is not a lot of instruction going on right now during spring break, I thought it might be nice to celebrate a birthday. Happy birthday to Ludvig Von Beethoven who is probably the most famous composer in the the history of the world. I saw this great video online and thought that it would be a great one to share. Enjoy

Chrome Music Lab is a fun way to learn about music.Hello Students and Parents, I have seen lots of creative pictures of how people are passing the time while they are staying at home. One of my colleagues Michele Misco, who teaches at Hillside Middle School shared a great music activity that you can do right in your browser. It is called Chrome Music Lab. Chrome Music Lab is a free website by Google, featuring 13 different interactive musical "experiments." There is not a lot of instruction, but that’s kind of the point. Use your imagination. The focus is very much on free form play and experimentation. This work can even work better with guidance, but it may be helpful to become familiar with it first. If you want to get more serious, there are 13 experiments to try with Chrome Music Lab. Start by playing around with all of them to see which ones connect with what you are learning in your other classes, because there are many. Chrome Music Lab is not just in music but also, science and math. Try these connections: 1.Math and Coding Connection - Oscillators can be a fun way to introduce the x- and y-axes and their usefulness for coding. 2.Science Connection - Chords and Sounds Waves can both be used to illustrate waveforms and frequency. 3.Music Connections - There are of course tons of use cases for learning, music especially composition, rhythm, arpeggios, and harmonics. Have Fun! Click Here…. Screen Shot for Song Maker from Chrome Music Lab Screen Shot 2 for Song Maker from Chrome Music Lab
Here We Go For Home Learning In Music!Hello Students and Parents,
I hope to have more activates coming soon. So far, a vast network of music educators across the country have offered curriculum materials to share. Many of these resources have not been completely curated. However, there is value in this unprecedented cooperation. Also, many online companies have given permission or access to music learning resources as well. Last but not least, music teachers in the Salt Lake City School District are continuing to create activities that can be used for home learning. For all of those who are helping out in a time of uncertainty, I am grateful. For SLCSD students, a link to Canvas will be coming soon. Here is information posted on the Salt Lake City School Website regarding the latest Coronavirus Information --------------------------------------------------- Sunday, March 15, 2020 Dear SLCSD families, Thank you for working with us as we respond to the call for a statewide school dismissal beginning tomorrow, Monday March 16. This is unprecedented in our state, and I am grateful for the support we’ve received from parents and for the example I’ve seen from our school and district leaders. The way our teachers, administrators, and staff have come together is inspiring, and I know that through these changes, our students’ well-being remains our first priority. As a reminder, the dismissal means that students will NOT attend classes in-person for the next two weeks. Instead, we will transition all students to a remote learning plan, starting on Wednesday, March 18. For more information you can read the statement and follow additional links here… https://www.slcschools.org/news/2019-20/coronavirus-information/ --------------------------------------------------- In an effort to provide home instruction for music students, I will be updating this site periodically during this break to help provide home music learning opportunities for students staying home during Covid-19 isolation. If you are not one of my students or attend school in the Salt Lake City School District, please feel free to use resources and even reach out to give feedback. |
